Our Founder & Vision
The History
In 2000 Phil Cole, alongside business partner Oliver Tucker, founded WL. Together with a great team they grew Wireless Logic into a £3.5 billion unicorn, which places it in the league of the FTSE 200 companies.
Phil was shaping the IoT industry long before it had a name. In 1998, he pioneered one of the UK’s first secure private mobile GPRS 2G networks, built on O2, to connect laptops in the field. This technical innovation quickly evolved into a commercial powerhouse, strategically enabling channel partners to transform into leading “as a service” SaaS providers.
He enabled these businesses to pivot from traditional hardware to SaaS models, a transformation that has since seen many of them grow into enterprises with values exceeding £100 million. Phil’s impact is rooted in his ability to engineer simplicity and deliver real business benefits at scale. He delivered connectivity as a service to tens of thousands of IoT channel partners across EMEA then globally.
That success quickly scaled, with vast M2M devices deployed. Phil & Oliver, with the backing of ECI bought back the company from Peter Jones (Dragons Den fame) in 2011. They then went on to exponential growth with great private equity partners and after three rounds of LBO investment flips, they turned it into one of the world’s leading and most profitable IoT companies, powering over 20 million “Things” globally today.
After stepping back in 2019 due to tech fatigue and a desire to focus on family, Phil returned in 2024 with a renewed vision and energy.
He is even more passionate now about the market opportunity of building the secure end-to-end IoT infrastructure of tomorrow.
